Cato

I recently learned from some friends in our area that they had been finding some cute skirts at the store Cato, so we decided to take a look there and found a fun knit skirt with a flounce, trimmed with a velvet ribbon! :) My sweater and shoes are from Goody's which is unfortunately out of business now where we live.

Also, if you sew you might be interested in seeing a jumper I completed. You can click here for the link. :)

God Bless!

Fall is Here!

Fall is here! Its my favorite time of year with all of the color and beauty of the changing leaves, crisp cold weather, jackets, sweaters and plaid skirts!
Here's just a few fall outfits from last week....
I'll post more soon!

One of the best things about Fall is that you can layer your clothes. Here, my jacket is from Romy(it was a birthday gift so I'm not sure what else they sell) , the shirt is from Ann Taylor, the skirt is from Eddie Bauer, and the shoes are from Payless.

Eddie Bauer carries a lot of Corduroy skirts and they usually ha
ve pretty good sales. The brown skirt below is from Eddie Bauer and the sweater is from Aeropostale. (They have good sweater sales not much else I would buy there)

One of my favorite plaid skirts from Christopher&Banks. The sweater is from JC Penny and the shoes are from MUDD.

Ross has a lot of cute shirts you just have to look hard to find the modest ones, or for some you can just wear a t-shirt under-neath... This shirt is from Ross and the skirt is from Canyon River Blues.

Here my skirt is from Sears, the jacket from Romy, and the scarf and boots from Ross.

Hancock Fabrics

The smock top material for this jumper was found at Hancock Fabrics for $9.99 a yard. It was very quick and easy to put together! You simply purchase enough material to go around you, plus a little extra fabric so you can make a 5/8" seam in the back. After finishing the seam we used some solid black fabric to make the straps. (We didn't even have to hem the jumper because it was on the selvage!)
Hancocks used to have the smock top material on their website under apparel, but I haven't seen it on their site as of late. However, you might want to check in your local store because they could still have some there. They had several other colors such as a royal blue with a daisy border print, as well as some red and white prints.
My blouse was purchased on clearance at Stage and I got my shoes on sale from Dillards!

Hope you all have a blessed day!

Speechless

Just the other day, my sister and I were shopping at the P.X and found tons of cute, modest, summer shirts by the name brand "Speechless." One of my favorite ones that we found was in Navy Blue and I mentioned to her that I hoped we could find the same shirt in White, and we did. I wore it yesterday for the Fourth of July, with my favorite Style J denim skirt.
They sell the same shirts at Sears.

The High Calling of God: why we should dress modestly

I've gotten many questions as to why I wear skirts, and dresses, all the time, and what is so important about modesty. To be able to answer the questions that people ask, and to strengthen my own convictions about why I do what I do, I did a study through Phillipians 3, and through some other verses in the Bible and here's what I found:

"Bretheren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things before. I press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Phil 3:13-14
When we are saved by Christ and become a Christian we are to leave behind our natural sin nature, the ways of the world in conversation, thoughts, behaviour, lifestyle, and the way we dress. We are to put on the "new man" which is Christ, and we are to strive for the "mark of the prize of the high calling of God." In the Greek text, "high" means: upward/on the top, and "calling" means: invitation/to becalled forth, so as Christians we have been "called" or "invited" by God, to strive to do our best, to reach the top in our convictions about how we portray Christ to the rest of the world by the way we talk, act, and dress.

"Let us therefore as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in anything ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this to you" vs. 15. By "otherwise minded" Paul is talking of anything that doesn't include Christ as the center. This could be "little" compromises: music that may be titled "christian" but sounds exactly like the music of the world, thoughts that are pleasing to others but not God, or even a desire to dress in a way that is more appealing to worldly people (or young men) so that they will be attracted to us and won't think that we are "weird" or "strange."

"Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained let us walk by the same rule let us mind the same thing. Bretheren, be ye followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an example." vs. 16-17. We are to watch others as an example of how we want to live our life and how we want to turn out in the end. Those who live, talk, think, dress, and act like Christ, have a meaningful relationship and walk with the Lord. These are the type of people we want to follow, and fellowship with, and watch as an example. We are to beware of what is evil, by observing what happens to those who claim to be Christians, but live like the world.

"For many walk of whom I have told you often and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ. Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things." Vs. 19. There are many girls today who claim to be Christians, but the only difference between them and their unsaved neighbors is that they go to church, carry a Bible, and wear a dress on Sunday. I heard a question asked by a preacher one time that made a huge impact in my life, he said: "if you were taken to court, and put on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?" Christian means "like Christ" and refers to living, talking, acting, thinking, speaking, and dressing, in a manner that is honoring and glorifying to God. We are to copy Christ in everything that we do, for he is our example and we are to "follow in his steps." As Christians our main goal and purpose here on earth is to bring glory to God, and to point others to Christ, how can we do that if there is no difference between those who are lost and us? If we dress exactly like non Christian girls do, showing as much skin as possible, trying to be "flashy" and "Hot", why would they want to become a Christian if the only difference between us and them is that we take one day out of the week to dress differently and act a part?

If we are dressing to attract young men, and hope that they will think we are "cute", then we need to check our hearts and ask God to help us focus on serving, and pleasing him, until he brings the right man into our lives, at the right time. All Christian girls hope to marry a godly, strong Christian, young man someday, and how would your future husband feel if he saw you in the type of outfit that any unsaved girl would wear? or acting in a flirtatious way with other guys? would he feel like he's getting a grand prize, a virtuous godly young lady, someone who has completely saved herself for him? or would he be dissapointed and decide that you're not the one? is it really worth it to dress immodestly, and flirt around, for a few years of pleasure, and possibly miss God's best for you? or to commit yourself to God and to saving every part of yourself for that special one?
If you truly desire the best, then make the decision no matter how difficult, to "Commit thy ways unto the Lord, trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass." Psalm 37:5

Burlington

Here's my church outfit from today. We came across this shirt while shopping at the Burlington Coat Factory, and the skirt is from "Sense." Its hard to find cute modest shirts, and it usually takes a lot of digging, but they're definitely worth the money when you find one! The name brand on this one is Jones New York.

Day 6: Wednesday

Today was in the high 80's, so after morning chores we spent the rest of the afternoon at the beach. I sat and studied while the children swam and we had BBQ outside for dinner so here's my hot day/beach dress: Mom and Dad found this at the PX (Postal Exchange) which is a store only for soldiers and their families, but the name brand is "Derek Heart" which is also sold at Sears and Ross. My flip-flops are from Wal-Mart and they are so comfy and the flowers are so cute!

Day 5: Monday

Today was a normal clean the house, cook meals, and study day, and after dinner I dropped my brother Stephen off at his Fencing class. Here's my typical Monday outfit: Denim skirt from Christopher & Banks, Shirt from Old Navy, and Sandals from Payless. The problem I've found with C&B skirts is that their smallest size is a 4, so if you wear a smaller size they tend to sit really low on the hips and you just have to make sure that you can find a shirt long enough to cover everything. Old Navy's shirts usually do the job nicely.

Day 4: Sunday

Here's my church outfit: I just found this shirt at Ross in the Juniors section and love wearing it! The white collar and bottom edge are sewn on so it gives the appearance of a layered shirt without being bulky. The skirt is from a friend of mine so I'm not sure where it was purchased but the name brand is "Sense."

Day 3: Saturday

At our house, unless we have a family trip planned, Saturdays are spent giving the house a thourough scrubbing, reorganizing everything from top to bottom, laying out church clothes, and making sure the yard is beautiful. Here's my cleaning outfit from Saturday, my mom found the skirt at Wal-Mart in the misses section, and I believe the shirt was a thrift shop find. I wouldn't go out in public (except camping) in this outfit but it works great for house cleaning! :)

Day 2

Today was spent studying, cooking, cleaning, running errands, and we had planned on having a picnic at a nearby state park until the rain changed our plans for us. So here is my outfit for day 2: Casual and practical enough for the house, and nice enough to wear out in public.
This is one of the dresses ones from Target in the girls section, and the t-shirt is from Kohls. (also in the girls section).

~Have a blessed day!

Week of Modest Dress

My friend Sarah suggested that I do a "week of modest dress" post, and make a post each day for a week about what I wore that day, where I found it, what I did in that particular outfit, and different things to give girls ideas of what they can wear when doing just about anything, so here's day One! :)
This is one of my favorite summer shirts(especially because it's pink). I found it at Kohls in the juniors section and, found the skirt at the Burlington Coat Factory also in the juniors section.
I wore this outfit because I was going out shopping and took my twin sisters out for an ice-cream date. It's light and cool on a hot day and perfect for running around town in! the shirt by itself tends to be a little low cut, so I wear a white camisole underneath. :)

Broomstick Skirts

My sister Lauren recently found these two skirts at Kohl's. Although they're not currently listed on the website, they can be found in Kohl's stores. These skirts are comfortable, fairly inexpensive, and come in either black or grey.

~Summer Dresses~

With Spring here and Summer on it's way, there isn't a better time to start looking for Summer dresses. We've found quite a few this year mostly at Target in the Girls section and their sizes run from xs:4/5 to XL:14/16. The long ones are: "Inca Red" "Deep Navy" "Fudge Solid" and "Green Plaid" (which is actually blue and purple) and these will show up if you click on the Target link above.
My parents went out and bought all 5 of us girls these matching dresses and they're a lot of fun to wear!

OldNavy has 1 long dress in the womens section and they sell it in Aqua Blue and Black.

Please let me know if this is helpful! :)
~Hoping you all have a Blessed spring!
(I'll have more pictures up soon!)
